2008 Appropriations Tracking

On this page you can find information on earmarks in 2008 appropriations bills as they moved through the legislative process to become law.

During the FY 2008 appropriations process, federal departments and agencies provided information on the number and cost of earmarks by appropriations bills. The "count" is the number of earmarks identified by the agency in the bill and report, or through other communication. The "amount" is the total value of the earmarks in the bill, in thousands of dollars.

Note: These estimates were developed with limited access to information and often under a tight timeline dictated by the legislative process. For each account, the agency has provided a PDF file that explains the basis for the estimates. In addition, these estimates may differ from those of other entities due to differences in the definition of an earmark used by that entity. To see definitions used by the US House of Representatives and the US Senate, click here.

Click on the Appropriations Bill title to view the agencies with earmarks in a particular bill.

Additional detail information on FY 2008 enacted earmarks will be available in Spring 2008.

*The Military Construction and VA bill total does not include a provision that prohibits the disposal or transfer of property at the West Los Angeles Medical Center by the Department of Veterans Affairs, resulting in an estimated $4 billion loss of receipts, because conventional budget scoring would not include the amount in the discretionary appropriations total.
